Stir of Echoes – After being hypnotized by his sister in law, a man begins seeing haunting visions of a girl’s ghost and a mystery begins to unfold around her.

An excellent suggestion by SweetCynthy (Solaris Beads), a movie we’d each seen before but where looking forward to watching again with our highly trained 2D1F eyes. It’s a spooky film with a tinge of bad acting, but a very well produced story line as well as a decent soundtrack.

2D1F – At the Edge of the World

At the Edge of the World – At the Edge of the World chronicles the controversial Sea Shepherd Antarctic Campaign against a Japanese whaling fleet.

A random pick in the documentary genre brings us this sad story of a lone huntsman trying to stop the Japanese from decimating the whale populations in the arctic Ross Sea. Very compelling content but quite poor execution were both our opinions. We didn’t get to learn much about the people who volunteer for such a crazy adventure, but we do get to see some beautiful footage of a hostile environment.

2D1F – The Mosquito Coast

The Mosquito Coast – An eccentric and dogmatic inventor sells his house and takes his family to Central America to build an ice factory in the middle of the jungle.

This movie was brought up during our review of The Omega Man over the topic of ice. It’s a tragic tale of a very stubborn dad. Lots of highs and lows that make you really pick sides in this family struggle while they try to bring ice to the jungles of Central America. Ice is civilization!

The Omega Man – Army doctor Robert Neville struggles to create a cure for the plague that wiped out most of the human race.

A 70’s classic with Charlton Heston as a possible lone survivor who fights wannabe zombies and tries to find other people unaffected. Pure 70’s cinematic gold with the overacting you’d expect to see, complete with cheesy dialog, sweaty hairy chests, and afros.

2D1F – Blazing Saddles

Blazing Saddles – To ruin a western town, a corrupt political boss appoints a black sheriff, who promptly becomes his most formidable adversary.

A classic comedy from the early 70’s that spawned so many catchphrases that er still in place today. Very politically incorrect to today’s standards, but a gem nonetheless. We’re pretty equal in our opinions this week, and neither of us really wanted to say the N-word, although it’s in the movie plenty of times.

The movie and beer, Coop Ale Works Native Amber, were thanks to our good friend Dave Haney from Oklahoma, who sent us the beer along with the movie suggestion. We normally drink 3 beers each on 2D1F night, and so we also added a very strong Polish Black Boss Porter in honor of Sherif Bart. 2D1F – The Crow

The Crow – A man brutally murdered comes back to life as an undead avenger of his and his fiancée’s murder.

Our wives join us on this episode as we review the movie that killed Brandon Lee. It’s a dark, almost zombie flick that has quite a few cliche situations, and some pretty mediocre acting, but not a total bomb. Listen in while the ladies get drunk and try to derail the best movie spoiler podcast out there!

Chrysalis – In the near future Paris, a cop is searching for his wife’s killer. The trail leads him to a high tech medical clinic where everything is not what it seems.

Finally a decent random pick! Great action, cinematography and editing. We have some differing opinions which makes for a good conversation about the flick, but be warned, the podcast goes longer then the movie. JerB is in fine form announcing our sponsor, so it’s worth a listen just for that.

2D1F – Drive

Drive – A mysterious Hollywood stuntman, mechanic and getaway driver lands himself in trouble when he helps out his neighbour.

A movie that neither of us had seen and was suggested by Roger who supplied us the beer. We both ended up liking it, but one of us a little more then the other, enough to search out some of the soundtrack songs. The movie is beautiful to look at, full of awkward silences, and at times flat out gruesome. One thing we did agree on was that there wasn’t enough chase scenes for a movie named Drive. The best scene of the whole movie is the chase scene from 54:00 to 55:50.

This was a random pick in the horror section, picked while recording the last episode, which has made us rethink our picking process. This was far from horror, and far from comedy, but it was one of George Clooney’s first acting gigs. 2D1F – Top Secret!

Top Secret! – Parody of WWII spy movies in which an American rock and roll singer becomes involved in a Resistance plot to rescue a scientist imprisoned in East Germany.

We did something totally different this week in order to stay on schedule, It may have been a mistake, you tell us. We ended up watching the movie together while playing pool and drinking beer, just before we recorded the show. We thought it would make the review more fresh, but this was a very hard movie to review, regardless of how much you pay attention, so in actuality, this may be the only movie ever made that we could pull off with this sort of setup. It’s a movie we’ve both seen, but not too recently, and it’s also another one that was in JB’s collection.
